Tragedy struck in South Carolina when an 8-year-old boy, Lionel Ramirez Cervantes, was found drowned in a pond after allegedly running away from his school. This heartbreaking incident, which has captured the community's attention, unfolded on September 12 near Bells Crossing Elementary School in Simpsonville.
Around 11 a.m., Lionel, a second grader living with autism, was last seen at school before he reportedly ran from his classroom. Eyewitness accounts reveal that he was with two classmates and three staff members when he bolted. Although the staff attempted to chase after him, they quickly lost sight of the young boy. This moment of panic initiated a frantic search led by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, which sadly concluded in tragedy later that afternoon.
In the hours that followed his disappearance, law enforcement and school officials worked tirelessly. The sheriff’s department posted updates on social media, urging the community to assist in the search while also asking them to remain in their vehicles to avoid disrupting the canine units working on the ground.
