In a tragic turn of events, a newborn baby was discovered deceased inside a Safe Haven Baby Box at Grove Creek Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho, prompting a police investigation. The incident unfolded on October 13, raising serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the baby's death and the intentions of those involved.
Safe Haven Baby Boxes are designed to provide a confidential and safe way for parents in crisis to surrender their newborns without the fear of legal repercussions. According to Idaho’s Safe Haven Act, a legal surrender can only occur if the infant is alive and unharmed. Sadly, in this case, the infant was found with her placenta still attached, indicating that she had died prior to being placed in the box.
The protocol dictates that medical staff respond immediately when a baby is placed in one of these boxes, and the staff at Grove Creek acted quickly, removing the infant within one minute. However, upon their swift response, it became clear that the baby had passed away long before being placed inside the box.
