It began as an ordinary day on November 13, 2008, for Dallas Wiens, a young man from Fort Worth, Texas. Dallas Wiens was working atop a boom lift when the unimaginable happened. The high-voltage wire delivered a shock so powerful that it burned away his entire face. The impact was immediate and catastrophic—Wiens was left without eyes, a nose, or lips, his identity seemingly erased in an instant. Rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital, surgeons fought to save his life, performing over a dozen procedures to remove the dead tissue and reconstruct what they could of his face.
Against all odds, Wiens began to recover. Despite doctors’ grim predictions that he would never speak, eat solid food, or walk again, Wiens defied each expectation.
