Scott Gimple, showrunner of the original series of The Walking Dead and the upcoming spin-off The Ones Who Live, addressed his favorite fan theory in a recent interview. The theory suggests that main character Rick Grimes is still in a coma and that all the events of the show are happening in his dream. Gimple admits to liking the theory and says that it has been a popular one among fans, stemming from the fact that the series began with Rick waking up in a deserted hospital. However, with nine seasons and a spin-off in the works, it's clear that this theory is not the case. Andrew Lincoln, who played Rick, left the original series in Season 9 but will be returning for The Ones Who Live, which will focus on reuniting Rick with his partner, Michonne, and answering questions about his absence. Gimple also mentioned the possibility of a Season 2 for the spin-off. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres on AMC on February 25, 2024.
