Three men have been found guilty in the murder of rapper XXXTentacion. The verdict was reached after a lengthy trial that lasted several weeks. The men, Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright, and Trayvon Newsome, were convicted of first-degree murder and armed robbery.
XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was shot and killed outside a motorsports store in Florida in June 2018. At the time of his death, the 20-year-old rapper had been making waves in the music industry, gaining popularity for his unique style and intense lyrics.
During the trial, prosecutors presented surveillance footage, DNA evidence, and witness testimonies that linked the defendants to the crime scene. The footage showed the suspects entering the motorsports store, and later leaving with bags, believed to contain items stolen from XXXTentacion's car.
It was revealed that Williams was the first to be arrested, just two days after the murder. He confessed to his involvement and provided information about the other individuals who participated in the crime.
The defense tried to argue that there were inconsistencies in the evidence and witness statements, suggesting that the identification of the suspects was flawed. However, the jury ultimately found the evidence against the defendants compelling and unanimously agreed on the guilty verdict.
Shortly after the verdict was announced, the judge sentenced Williams and Boatwright to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
