Rick wakes up in a hospital bed to find a world overrun by the walking dead. Together with survivors like Shane and Lori, he searches for family and forms a group. They seek answers at the CDC, learn that all people are infected, and eventually take refuge at Hershel's farm. Conflict arises with the Governor and Woodbury, leading to the destruction of the prison. Rick goes on the run, losing loved ones and finding refuge at Alexandria.
