The trial has officially commenced for three suspects who stand accused of murdering the popular rapper, XXXTentacion. The young artist was tragically killed in June 2018 during an attempted robbery at a motorcycle dealership in Florida, United States. The suspects, all facing charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery, appeared before the court to begin the legal proceedings.
XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, gained significant recognition for his unique music style and had a massive following, particularly among young people.
The three suspects, Dedrick Devonshay Williams, Michael Boatwright, and Trayvon Newsome, were arrested in the days following XXXTentacion's murder. Williams, the first suspect to be taken into custody, was arrested two days after the incident, while Boatwright and Newsome were apprehended weeks later. The accused individuals, ranging from 20 to 22 years old at the time of their arrest, have been held at a detention center awaiting the start of the trial.
During the trial's opening statements, the prosecution provided an overview of the evidence they plan to present to prove the defendants' guilt. The state intends to demonstrate that the three suspects meticulously planned the robbery, targeting XXXTentacion as their victim. It is alleged that the defendants ambushed the rapper outside the motorcycle dealership, after which they fatally shot him before fleeing the scene.
