A suspected gunman has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of rapper XXXTentacion. The 20-year-old rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, was killed on June 18th in an apparent robbery outside a motorcycle dealership in Florida. Authorities announced on Thursday that they had apprehended a suspect in the case.
The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Dedrick D. Williams. He was arrested on Wednesday in Pompano Beach, Florida, and has been charged with first-degree murder, probation violation, and driving without a valid license.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office, along with assistance from the U.S. Marshals and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, were involved in the arrest. Authorities have not released any information regarding the motive behind the shooting or whether there are any additional suspects involved.
XXXTentacion gained popularity through his music on the streaming platform SoundCloud. He was known for his raw and emotionally charged lyrics, which often touched on themes of depression, suicide, and past struggles with violence. The rapper's music resonated with many young people and he quickly amassed a large fan base.
